Underrepresented Communities & Unequal Impacts of COVID 19 - Part 2: Latinx Communities

Today marks the second day of our "Lack of Representation in the time of COVID-19" Campaign. The trends outlined in Day 1 and Day 2 of this campaign reveal the disproportionately high mortality rates and sharp economic consequences of COVID-19 within both Black and Latinx communities. Specifically, the Latinx population is experiencing 24.9 deaths per 100,000 people compared to 22.7 deaths for Whites. Furthermore, the economic effects of COVID have hit Latinx communities the hardest with 20% of Hispanic adults reporting being laid off or furloughed since the outbreak. However with incomplete data, including the unique subset of immigrants and undocumented communities who face language barriers and immigration status concerns, it is difficult to assess how to provide resources specific to the needs of this community, as well as the extent of the challenges they're facing.
