- Graduating in 4 years? Apply in your 3rd year.
- Graduating in 3 years? Apply in your 2nd year.
- Transfer student? Apply in the Summer of your first year at UCSB. You may also apply during the Winter Quarter if you are in your 3rd/JUNIOR year.

Applications open during the Winter Quarter.
For incoming transfer students:
Applications open during the summer on July 1st. Transfer students may apply earlier during the Winter application window for continuing juniors/3rd years.
What is the application like?
The PISJ Minor application is an online GoogleForm.
The application seeks to identify your interests in the Minor and determine if you have met all course prerequisites (Hist 74 & 1 upper-div elective).
As long as you apply during the application window you will be considered for the Minor. Applicants are not accepted based on rolling admissions.
Applicants will receive an answer usually a few weeks after the application closes.
Zoom Information Sessions
Offered during the Fall & Winter Quarters
Our most recent Zoom Info Session was held on Wednesday, July 24th. Please use this link to access the session.
These sessions provide an overview of how to apply to the PISJ Minor, key details for completing the Minor, and a Q&A session for participating stuents.
An email invitation will be sent to students of HIST 74, but please check back to verify dates and view prior recorded sessions.
Prerequisite Application Requirements
For continuing 3 & 4-year graduates:
Completed OR currently enrolled in History 74 and 1 Upper-Division (UD) elective during/by the time of your application.
For incoming transfer students:
The requirements are the same. You must have completed or be currently enrolled in History 74 and 1 Upper-Division (UD) elective during/by the time of your application.
What the "currently enrolled" requirement means:
You must be either currently enrolled in the course or have enrolled in the course for the following quarter during an eligible pass time at the time of application.
Upper division elective courses for the Minor:
These courses MUST be taken outside your major department. For example, on GOLD, history majors just take classes outside of history, sociology majors outside of sociology, etc.
Note: the upper-division electives may be selected from the official Minor sheet or pre-approved upper div course substitutions sheet. You may also petition a class you have completed to apply to the Minor.
